| Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Ichiro Suzuki went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, three RBI and two runs scored to pace the New York Yankees in a 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opener of a day-night doubleheader. Lyle Overbay contributed a two-run double and Mariano Rivera struck out a pair in the ninth to earn his 25th save and hand former teammate and current Dodgers manager, Don Mattingly, a loss in his return to Yankee Stadium. Mattingly spent his entire 14-year career (1982-95) with New York and served as a bench coach to former Yankee manager Joe Torre before leaving the club following the 2007 season. It was also the first meeting in the Bronx between the Yankees and Dodgers since the 1981 World Series, won by Los Angeles. Huroki Kuroda (7-5) ended a five-start winless streak with 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball. He allowed eight hits and two walks. Hanley Ramirez went 4-for-4 with a two-run homer for the Dodgers, who have lost seven of their last nine games. Hyun-Jin Ryu (6-3) was tagged for three runs on five hits over six innings. |
